Miniature Double Diver (Two Male Figures)

Description

Two male divers perfectly balance each other in an acrobatic stance, crafted with a regal finish in bronze and gold leafed caps.

The body of the divers are arched into a sensuous C-shape almost defying the rules of physics, and speak to the artists understanding of the golden mean: an ancient mathematical equation epitomizing balance and proportion. The form is a perfect example of what eighteenth-century art theorist William Hogarth called ‘the line of beauty’: that curving serpentine silhouette found in all things naturally beautiful.
